What is CAPP?

CAPP is a programme of genetically targeted clinical trials. The primary aim is to determine by randomised controlled trial whether taking certain supplements on a daily basis will reduce adenoma/cancer initiation and progression in a genetically predisposed population.

The acronym originally referred to the European funding programme called Concerted Action for Polyp Prevention. Following the end of European funding in 2001 and new sponsorship from the Medical Research Council and Cancer Research UK, the acronym was changed to Colorectal Adenoma/carcinoma Prevention Programme. This new title recognises the involvement of over 40 centres in 20 countries worldwide.

There have been 2 trials to date in this series: CAPP1 and CAPP2. The collaborators are currently planning and designing CAPP3.
