Update on progress in South Africa - 25/07/2006

Cape Town joined the CAPP study in October 2004 and has recruited 48 participants from around South Africa.  This has made them one of our largest recruiting centres.  Recruits are scattered around the Cape Town area but there is also a large cohort of participants in the North and Western Cape.  These latter recruits are visited on a regular basis by staff based in the University of Cape Town.  They travel to this region several times a year to meet with the recruits and discuss any trial issues.  Once a year this trip is undertaken with a gastroenterologist and nursing staff in order to carry out  their annual screening colonoscopy.

Cape Town is now taking part in the Long Term Follow Up phase of the CAPP2 Study. Each recruit will be contacted once a year and details of their general health and more particularly colonoscopy screening results collected. This data will give valuable information on any long term effects of the interventions.
